Candace’s Birth Story

She and Jim determined from the beginning that they would have a homebirth. Jim has a sister who has had 7 homebirths. Since I didn't raise Candace, I highly suggested a birth at the nice birthing clinic in Tallahassee. But, they were determined. Candace ate right, took vitamins and walked for her prenatal self-care. She and Jim prayed for the baby’s health and believed God created pregnancy and could help them make wise decisions.

On December 1, Candace woke up around 3 a.m. with labor rushes. She walked around hurting until around 6 a.m. She had a bloody show and called me over there. She kept feeling like she had to “poop” and wouldn’t leave the toilet. We tried to get her to go to the bed but she kept feeling like she had to poop. I asked her to to to the bedroom and lay down but she kept hopping back out of bed. She finally went to the bathroom running. She called me and said she felt something. I knealed down beneath her and could see the little head emerging. She wouldn't go tothe bed or lay down.

Jim knealt in from of her and she picked up her left leg and placed it on Jim’s shoulders. She delivered the baby in a standing up position. She delivered the placenta in the toilet.

It was a little girl named Emma Grace.. She was perfect in every way.
