Don't the older and better manuscripts support the new versions?
Part four of a study on the King James Bible
By Keith Wallace
In the previous section we began to discuss the issue of the Bible manuscripts and which are the Roman Catholic corrupted manuscripts and which are the incorrupt. The issue always arises about which manuscripts are the "oldest" and the "best". Many of the new versions will have footnotes around verses such as Acts 8:37 and 1 John 5:7 that say something to the effect of "the oldest and best manuscripts omit this verse". Since I have never been one to enjoy doing something that has already been done, I'm going to provide you a link to Chapter 6 of The Answer Book by Dr. Samuel Gipp. In this short chapter he covers this subject, so please take a couple of minutes to follow the link and read what he has to say.
In Section 3, I explained the origins of the manuscripts and from which line of manuscripts the modern versions come, as well as which line the King James follows. To help you to visualize the history of the manuscripts and the versions they produced I have this chart that a good friend of mine put together. It may take a moment to load (depending on your connection speed), but will be well worth the time.
